Inforonics Insight℠ Enterprise Monitoring and Graphing Service


Responding to false alerts, verifying faults, or performing low-level corrective actions can significantly decrease the time your internal IT resources can devote to core competencies or more serious system management tasks.


Inforonics InSight℠ EMS provides continuous monitoring of applications, servers or network devices hosted with Inforonics or remotely at your data center or a third-party data center up to 24x7x365.


Inforonics EMS polls each monitored device and interface at intervals tailored to the customer's specification. When an event or alert is triggered, the Inforonics Network Operations Center is notified. An Inforonics engineer will then perform the proper fault verification and escalation quickly and accurately.

  • The Inforonics Assistance, Resolution and Knowledge Center : The Inforonics ARK is a hybrid of a Network Operations Center (NOC) and customer service call-center. The result is a premium 24x7 service that combines hardware and application alert handling with branded and tiered technical support. This combination of services allows effective and efficient management of client-defined work and communication flow in response to each call from you or your end-user. Also included with ARK services is management of automated alerts from monitored devices or systems, including issue verification, triage, escalation, resolution, client notification and post-event documentation.

Monitoring and Graphing Tools

  • Inforonics delivers a comprehensive, monitoring and trending solution including custom trap management, browser-based monitoring tools, and a custom monitoring management system built on open source technologies.

  • Nagios is used as a scheduling and escalation engine to run custom monitoring code.

  • Additional custom code rapidly provisions monitoring points, creates custom escalation instructions for monitoring points, handles SNMP trap management, automates problem resolution, graphs monitoring data, and builds complex meta-alerts based on other monitoring data.

  • Cacti is used to graph resource data from devices, operating systems, and applications, and Inforonics has developed a library of custom data-gathering scripts and Cacti data templates for creating custom and client-specific graphs.

  • The data gathered by Cacti and the custom Inforonics monitoring plug-ins for Nagios are fed into a system that does a linear regression analysis to find data points that are trending, up or down, beyond defined thresholds to assist in capacity planning.


Monitoring Services

  • Inforonics' InSight℠ supports both proactive polling in defined time intervals and reactive trap monitoring.

  • Servers: Standard monitoring points for servers include Application/Protocol (SNMP, SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, Processes/Services, Database Connectivity if applicable); System Resources (Load Average, Virtual Memory Utilization/SWAP, CPU Utilization, OS File systems, Data Drives/File systems); Network Connectivity (IP Connectivity, NIC Status); and Hardware Health as provided by the covered device through SNMP (Raid Status, CPU Hardware, Memory Hardware, Power Supply, Temperature, Fan Operation, Battery).

  • Firewalls: Standard monitoring points for firewalls include SNMP, NIC status, CPU, session counts, environmental status (fans, temperature), and management access. Error counts are also tracked.

  • Load-balancers: Standard monitoring points for load-balancers include SNMP, NIC status, CPU, service up/down, session counts, environmental status (fans, temperature), and management access. Error counts are also tracked.

  • Routers: Standard monitoring points for routers include IP Connectivity, CPU utilization, environmental (fans, temperature, etc), SNMP, and NIC status as the supported device allows.

  • Switches: Standard monitoring points for switches include SNMP, IP Connectivity, CPU utilization, environmental (fans, temperature, etc), and interface status as the supported device allows.

  • Storage Devices: Standard monitoring points for storage devices include disk utilization, I/O utilization, environmentals (fans, temperature, etc) and disk failures as provided by the SNMP mib.

  • VPN tunnels: error rates, availability

  • Databases: can include graphing of database metrics, and checking for database reachability and basic functionality

  • Inforonics' InSight℠ supports custom, Client-defined application monitoring that simulates end-user experiences, checks page availability and confirms application functionality by accessing and inputting data at defined time intervals and checking output against expected results. Unacceptable results like failed page loads, content string issues, slow load times, or poor quality rich media will generate alerts that can be triaged and escalated using Client-defined run book processes just like system alerts.

  • Using its large library of custom monitoring code Inforonics delivers custom monitoring solutions tailored to the needs of each client, including infrastructure for browser-based testing that ensures the functionality of AJAX and Rich media applications.
